Throughout, this book is beautifully presented, and Paul Gilreath writes with an easy, amusing, and informative style. It ought to appeal to those with a knowledge of music technology who also want an accessible introduction to the craft of orchestral composition — there is enough theoretical groundwork laid down here to get people started. Few books have the scope and depth of The Guide to MIDI Orchestration. I've heard orchestral demos done well and done poorly. The difference is in the details of orchestration, mixing, ambience and all the elements of good audio and music production. Readers of the book will get the best possible guide into how to do it right. --Jeff Rona

Paul Gilreath's book The Guide to MIDI Orchestration (3rd Edition) is a great resource for individuals who are trying to learn the "secrets" of how to make a midi-sequenced orchestral composition sound more real.  Packed with in depth information about how to deal with issues concerning sequencing the different different sections of the orchestra, the book also contains detailed information about equipment and sequencing software, the various sample libraries that are available, effects plug-ins and many other important topics.  Many of my students have used this book to learn how to make their electronic performances have more life and sound less mechanical.  The techniques taught in this book work.  Highly recommended. --Hummie Mann
