Few books have the scope and depth of The Guide to MIDI Orchestration. I've heard orchestral demos done well and done poorly. Paul Gilreath's book The Guide to MIDI Orchestration (3rd Edition) is a great resource for individuals who are trying to learn the "secrets" of how to make a midi-sequenced orchestral composition sound more real. Packed with in depth information about how to deal with issues concerning sequencing the different different sections of the orchestra, the book also contains detailed information about equipment and sequencing software, the various sample libraries that are available, effects plug-ins and many other important topics. Many of my students have used this book to learn how to make their electronic performances have more life and sound less mechanical. The techniques taught in this book work.
